If you’re planning to attend the BASPCAN Congress in Warwick on 8th – 11th April, why not come along to some of the sessions being run by International Centre staff.
All our papers are being presented on Monday 9th April.
At 11am, Carlene Firmin, Jenny Lloyd, Debbie Allnock and Jo Walker are running a symposium on preventing sexual harm in schools. Drawing on a recently completed study, they will be considering the issue of sexting, the nature of sexual harm in schools, and issues of identification and disclosure.
At 1.30pm Debbie Allnock will be taking part in a session on CSE and online abuse and exploitation. She will be presenting research findings on different models of policing responses to CSE.
At 4.30pm Helen Beckett, Silvie Bovarnick and two members of our Young Researchers Advisory Panel will be thinking about why we should involve children and young people in research on sensitive issues. Drawing on their work in the field of sexual violence, they will be looking at the arguments for and against involving young people in sensitive research and sharing their practice-based reflections on what works (and doesn’t!), both from a researcher’s perspective and from the perspective of young people themselves.
Also at 4.30pm, Carlene Firmin will be taking part in a session on understanding child abuse and neglect, presenting an introduction to Contextual Safeguarding.
